Who we are
An independent guide, written from the Pope's old diocese
Pope Leo XIV led the diocese of Chiclayo, in northern Peru, from 2015 to 2023, back when he was Robert Prevost. This guide started there, and it follows his expected return home.
Who we are
visitapapal.pe is an independent editorial project, published in Spanish and English. It is not an official site of the Holy See or the Catholic Church. We are travelers who know northern Peru and want your trip to go smoothly.
How we source and check facts
We lean on primary sources. For anything about the Church, that means the Holy See; for local detail, the Peruvian Episcopal Conference; for travel, PromPerú and MINCETUR. We keep two things apart: what the Vatican has confirmed and what Peru's government expects. So far the Vatican has confirmed only a June 18, 2026 audience. The November window and the five cities (Lima, Chiclayo, Piura, Cusco, and Pucallpa) come from Peru's government and are not yet official.
We do not invent opening hours, prices, or ratings. When a detail isn't confirmed, we say so, and we update each page as soon as official information lands.
How the site makes money
We fund visitapapal.pe with affiliate links to Booking.com, GetYourGuide, and Viator. Book through one and we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. The links are always marked, and they never change what we recommend. We suggest only what we'd book ourselves.
